Can't beat this all you can eat sushi joint. The sushi is fresh and the service is quick! I do appreciate there rule "25 cents for every piece left on you plate". They are trying to reduce people who over order. So just keep that in mind. Other wise great place to get your sushi fix!

Yuck! I LOVED this restaurant under its two former names. Now that it's Yamato, my last 2 experiences have been horrible and I won't go back. 1st visit: Sushi tasted like it had been pre-made hours before and then refrigerated for the lunch rush. 2nd visit: The spicy California roll used to be my favorite thing to order prior to the restaurant's last name change. Now it's just a California roll with some spicy mayo thrown on top. No thanks!

Been a few times. Sushi tasted ok. One of my last visits I had intestinal issues a few hours later. Thinking it was a one time event or coincidence I went again about 6 weeks later, same problem. I won't be returning.

$22.95 for all you can eat sushi dinner. It looks expensive, but your order quickly adds up and far surpasses what the price indicates. For example, you get your maximum of 30 pieces of sashimi and bam it's already worth it. And then you go ahead and try every single appetizer, a few entrees, a few specialty rolls, and the desserts 5 times over. This is when the staff starts to get very angry with you and stops coming to serve you. But you go back for more anyway. Why? Because you paid for unlimited Japanese food and unlimited Japanese food you will get. Aside from being unlimited, the food here is not good. The rolls have too much rice and barely any fish, while most of the other dishes are pretty bland. But the fact that you can get all of it again and again is what draws people in. The down side? They charge you per piece of sushi you don't finish. What was once a lovely dinner out quickly turns into survival of the fittest. No roll left behind. Also the service is not good (I mean understandable, I did rob them of their food). All in all this is a great place to stuff your face with all things Japanese for a reasonable price. Try all the apps (harumaki and seaweed salad were the best IMHO), get your money's worth with the sashimi, and hit it home with the mochi balls. However if you're expecting really good Japanese food, this is not the place.

This review is based off the all you can eat menu. First off, it was a Monday night and it wasn't busy at all, but the waitress couldn't seem to handle 7 people doing AYCE. We had to continually remind the waitress to bring us items we ordered, and she seemed completely annoyed every time we asked her for something. For AYCE you order everything by marking the items off a small menu sheet, so it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to bring out things that are marked clearly on a sheet. As for the food, the major plus is that you can order sashimi. You are limited to 30 pieces per person, but that's plenty in my mind. The fish seemed fresh, but I've also had better. The rolls are a little heavy on the rice, and I have a feeling this may just be because we were doing AYCE. The menu is large, and there's even a lot of items available from the hibachi grill. If your main goal is to eat a lot, then the AYCE menu if for you. But if you want quality, then go elsewhere.

All you can sushi but the quality sushi is similar to the local grocery. Worst part of this restaurant is the terrible service. I am not sure she was owner or manager- very rude attitude.

Ok- always start off with the funny part. Walked in sat at the bar, bartender says hi, then proceeds with I'm very busy... Ok it was funny cause he was making drinks and reading the drink menu to know what to put in the drink. Then we got sat at a table, you order your Sushi off of a paper menu, and you can eat as much rolls, Sashimi or appetizers as you like. The food was pretty good, not great, service was a little slow and inattentive. I would go back, but its not the greatest place in the world.

All you can eat sushi! BAM! Dear Yamato sushi house, I understand completely if you never want to see my face or my family again as I think we depleted your supply of fish for the week. But I hate break it to you: I will be back. I mean, come on. You guys put on the greatest all you can eat menu I have seen. When you give me the ability to order countless amounts of appetizers, tempura, hibachi grill, sushi, sashimi, maki rolls, chocolate fried bananas, and ice cream for only $20...well, I'm gonna order by the truck load. I know you didn't think it was possible that a person with my frame could put that mountain of food away. Well, you thought wrong. But I just wanted to apologize for having an unbelievable time stuffing my face and eating your whole kitchen of food. I'll be back once I've digested it all and look forward to it. Sincerely, Dan P.s. I know you brought that hibachi out last and made the chicken dry on purpose because you didn't think I could finish it. But bam! Gone! No $0.25 charge per un-eaten item for this boy!

Sushi + All you can eat? Awesomeness. I love when I can find a place that does good sushi. And better yet, all you can eat! This is my go-to spot when I have dinner with an old friend. We order a ton of different rolls and go to town. We always walk away stuffed. The sushi is good - it is not the best sushi I have ever had. But, it is very good! They have a nice variety of sushi rolls. It is not buffet style - which I love. You get to pick the rolls you want and they are made fresh for you. The presentation is nice. And, it doesn't take too long to get your food. The service was just ok. With that being said, I can't think of ever going to sushi restaurant and ever walking out thinking "wow. the service was amazing!". If you're in the area (i.e. the 'burbs) and craving sushi - I'd give this place a try!

Just totally lackluster. Nothing special about this place. Ordered edamame and some rolls. The edamame came out after the rolls. The waiter apologized saying, "The kitchen is slow tonight." The rolls were decent but just didn't seem that fresh. The cucumber was starting to turn brown. I considered sending a roll with salmon back (I didn't and hopefully I don't regret that choice). Even the edamame just wasn't that great. Again, I think it's the freshness thing. With so many sushi choices in the area, I won't be back here.

I come here occasionally for the all you can eat sushi. The sushi always tastes fresh. My favorite roll is the Kiss on fire. I usually order a few pieces of himachi and escolar sashimi. Appitizers are also included. The avocado salad is the best so don't skip it!

This was my 3rd visit, my first was a good experience, my second was poor, I decided to see which was going to be repeated, this visit was even worse than the last. I Was seated at the Sushi bar and found an off putting sulfur odor. I ordered appetizer item's that did not arrive, and the sashimi items were not sliced all the way through. While they only had 3 other tables sat, the service was very slow. They were friendly but very slow. The hand washing sink at the Sushi bar had no hand towels and had food containers stacked in the sink. The Sushi chef used the same towel to wipe the cutting surface, food containers as well as his hands. Unlike other Sushi restaurants the fish in the cases were intermingled with up to 7 or 8 different varieties together on the same plate and a plate of tempera shrimp that is used in the magic mak sat out on the back counter With so many Sushi restaurants in the metro area I don't plan on returning.

I actually really enjoyed this place. I might be saying that since I still have coupons left that make it reasonably priced. Even without the coupon, $14 for AYCE lunch? Deal! You can't expect the quality or fish:rice ratio to be as good as non-AYCE or "fancier" sushi places. Still, this place impressed me way more than my lunch experience at Fushinami on Farwell. You sit down and order with pencil and paper, everything from gyoza to katsu to specialty rolls to handrolls to ice cream to....you get the idea. I would be careful and order less at first and order more later if you're still hungry - they will charge you $0.50 per uneaten piece of sushi! I say this because the portions of the rolls are way big, even the hot kitchen items. Also, there's a parking lot, so hurray!

I'm a huge sushi fan and have tried several restaurants in Milwaukee and even in Tokyo.. So I can be pretty harsh when it comes to grading the quality of the fish, rice, and presentation. This place has a sweet all-you-can-eat deal but BE CAREFUL! I made the mistake ordering under the impression that they serve with a good fish to rice ratio... But no. Sushi pieces and rolls come with a lot of rice so they get you full and you can't order more. They also charge you 50 cents/piece if you're not able to finish it. In terms of quality, the fish was alright, nothing spectacular. I think Fujiyama has a lot better quality fish than they have. Overall, it was alright. Next time I'll hold my urges and wait for Monday/Tuesday night deals at Fujiyama.

They offer all you can eat every night of the week so that's a pretty nice deal. My wife and I love taking friends to AYCE when we introduce them to sushi. That way they don't feel like they have to know what they want before ordering or feel like they are wasting money if they don't finish eating something. The Sushi was pretty good for AYCE and I felt gave our friends a good introduction to Sushi. The service was good and the staff was very helpful. We are already thinking about other friends we can introduce so we can come back again.

Me and my friends were really craving sushi one day and found this hole in the wall. The place offers an all you can eat sushi which is absolutely perfect for a group of hungry guys like us. I know what we're all thinking, "a sushi place in Wisconsin?" I'm not going to lie, the sushi here is not like one of those top notch high quality piece of fishy goodness like you will find at a sushi bar in Japan, but the chefs here do a pretty decent job that will be sure to satisfy your tastes and even your wallets. Overall you get what you paid for. At $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner, with an endless amount of sushi, I ain't complaining. Couple other downfalls are that the service may be slow at times, but the waiters are really friendly. And they do put a limit to how much sashimi and mochi ice cream you could order which is a total bummer because I'm a huge fan of those. However, I'll definitely be back again.

We had the misfortune of attempting to eat lunch with my family here today. The host was visibly stressed. We ordered and waited...... Food finally showed up, the order was wrong, everybodys drink was emplty my son got up to take the soy sauce off of another table. When's the last time you spent an hour and a half at lunch? We were all very angry and hungry at this point. I asked to take 50% off of our bill and we would leave, he took 20% off and that made me even more angry. These people suck and they don't care. They had an opportunity to make things right and they chose not to.

Not much personality to the service (at all) but the food was terrific, unlimited in the all you can eat, and widely varied. They charge 50 cents per piece for uneaten food. That's smart. The place is clean, in a great location in Elm Grove, and I would not hesitate to go repeatedly.

If I could, I would give this place zero stars. I came here for the sushi buffet. The food was average but the service was horrible. This restaurant is the most ridiculous place to dine at. The waitress will scold you until you tip her more! Don't come here if you're looking for decent service.

Went in for lunch with eyes bigger than our stomachs after seeing that we could have all you can eat sushi!!! I have been here multiple other times while they were under different names. My experience this time was better than the previous, which were also pleasant. Decided I did not want to be a gutton and kept things rational with 3 rolls and a Kirin Light Beer. NOTE: The All-You-Can-Eat special was $22.50 per person If I recall. So for us it was more worth while to eat a-la-carte. When my food came out, the presentation was fantastic. The sushi was beautifully laid out on the white plate. My wifes was also amazing. Aside from presentation, the sushi tasted fantastic. The price was even better than the competition locally. I WILL be going back. I'll probably stop in for lunch in the next two weeks.

the sushi was pretty good, but i tend not to order any "special" rolls. if you're doing straight ahead stuff like sashimi or hand rolls, they're doing okay. it's nothing special, but it gets the job done. some of the appetizers were not the greatest. we had a chicken teriyaki dish that was over cooked and i thought the ginger dressing on the salad needed a bit more ginger flavor. the decor is surprising sophisticated for a restaurant in a strip mall. the biggest problem they have is service. don't expect to get anything in a timely manner, including your check. on my last visit nearly 45 minutes passed after the meal was finished and the waitress never showed. i finally went up to a server at the bar and asked for the check. it still took nearly 15-20 min to get it. if you want to try this place, expect to be there at least 2 hours. if the service issue is corrected, this could easily be a 3.5 star review.

Yamato Sushi House is tucked into a strip mall in Elm Grove. It shares a parking lot with a fitness center, wine shop, bank and other strip mall tenants. It was formerly another Asian restaurant. We dined here on a Sunday afternoon. The decor looks the same with the bad ass glass window floor you can walk on that has bottles of liquor under it. We settled into a booth. The dinner all you can eat sushi was over $20, more than I wanted to spend. I ordered five pieces of sushi (tuna, salmon, mackerel, scallop, eel). The presentation was nice although the rice was larger than most I've seen. My wife ordered a chicken teriyaki (boring) and she raved about it. The yum yum and ginger sesame sauces are really great here. The service was attentive. The restaurant did have an off smell of crab shells - not in a good way. Chance of return 7/10. It's closer than Meiji and my wife doesn't care for GInza, which is really close to our home.

Tried the all you can eat. The appetizers and salads were good, but the sushi was lack luster. We were there for three hours due to an incredibly confused and overwhelmed server paired with a very slow kitchen. We didn't even get half our order because we were sick of waiting. Good concept, very poor execution.

All you can eat sushi for a great price! If you buy rolls individually it would cost about the same and this way you get to try new ones. The only down side is that you can't take the rolls home so if you like leftovers then ordering a la carte is the way to go. Fun atmosphere and if everyone in the group is also ordering sushi, then you can share. Great fun for a birthday or event. I will definitely go again.

Skeptical of a sushi restaurant in a strip mall that offers all you can east at first. But my husband and I really had a good time. the sushi is decent and you really get anything on the menu, as much as you want for one price! Where else can you get unlimited Sochi and 4 drinks for less than $70 bucks??? We'll be back.

The all-you-can-eat option is AMAZING!! I am very picky about my sushi and typically the all-you-can-eat places disappoint. However, this one serves super high quality, made-to-order sushi (sashimi, rolls, hand rolls, etc) in a friendly, clean environment with decent decor.

I was very sad to see this place close down when it was called Tokyo, as I LOVED the discount sushi days, but was apprehensive about it being reopened under new management advertised as "all you can eat". When we finally got around to trying it, we discovered that the menu had some of the same exact rolls. Checking out the All You Can Eat Menu, it reads like an ominous warning in broken English. The summary of that is: No sharing. No taking home leftovers. A charge of .50 per leftover roll. (!!) I found 2 rolls I wanted to order, and since the lunch all you can eat special was the same price as one roll, it seemed like a good deal. HOWEVER,when the girl arrived to take our order, she said that I could not order those rolls. Why? Although they were ALL listed together as all you can eat menu options, certain rolls could only be ordered for lunch and dinner. The two I wanted were dinner only or order separately. ($22.50 dinner and $13 something for lunch for reference). If this were the case, why list them all on the same page? She told me I could only order from the little order sheet and not from the menu. Looking at the order sheet, I found only two that were cooked, but they were not listed in the menu. Upon asking, she said that they were new and were not on the menu. So...you can only order them for lunch and you have to guess? I asked why they were and she told me, only to come back with a list and say that she was wrong and correct herself. Okay. So I decided to get one of the rolls I was planning on ordering originally and save myself a headache as I was having trouble understanding her and she was having trouble understanding me. Once the roll arrived, it tasted great. There was no presentation to be spoken of, just rolls on a plate. But overall, the service here is lacking and the menu is...confusing. The waitress could not tell us what the rolls were, and she only came back long enough to drop off and pick up our plates. It would not have been difficult to include a little paper print-out with the new menu items that were not listed on the menu. It made zero sense to have one page of all you can eat rolls listed with a dinner price and a lunch price, but not have it specify which rolls you can order when. Another print-out taped into the menu could have explained that. It sounds like something they made up at the last minute. The all you can eat menu is worth it only if you plan to order at least 3 rolls and you can finish all of them, and are sure you will like all of them. If you order one you don't like, you pay them $4 for not eating it. On noise level, it started off packed and noisy for lunch, but after about 20 minutes, the rush ended and you could have heard a pin drop. Time your visit accordingly to miss the rush. A final note that the hibachi room that had only two hibachi tables is now a dining room with tables, and there is one hibachi table stuffed into the back.

So I went to Yamato again today, and I can say that I was much more impressed than my last visit. The service was much better (Which is really strange because I actually had the same waitress as last time) and less pushy than last time, and all our food came out noticeably quicker. I still prefer Kyoto and Big Tuna for more traditional sushi, but I must say the "special maki" here is really good. Normally I go for sashimi and nigiri most of the time, but when come here think americanized. It's what they do best. Anyway, all in all a good meal at a great price.

Nice selection of rolls, have eaten here before and been very satisfied. Today the rolls were rather dry. Service was quick. I will be back again.
